For the Teachers for Global Classrooms program, I developed a math unit plan that focuses on using statistics to understand global issues. It includes the four global competencies: Investigating the World, Recognizing Perspectives, Communicating Ideas, and Taking Action. I used the Understanding by Design framework. As a math teacher I've felt challenged in how to integrate a global perspective into my lessons. In the past, I've used the excuse that math doesn't naturally lend itself to this. This is my first step to moving towards a more globalized curriculum. If I want my students to embrace the idea of global citizenship, it is my responsibility to find the opportunities for them to investigate the world and recognize other perspectives.
